End of Year Update

I can't believe it's the end of the year already! Every year I say that but time really does fly. This time last year I said I was going to pay off my debt. That was the goal. This is why I never make new years resolutions. I don't want to be too hard on myself when I break them. My goal for next year (again) is to pay it all off. We'll see what happens. I am definitely motivated more than before and I think I will get it done if not put a serious dent in it.

The last month I have really been busy working. We are down people and I have been picking up extra shifts when I can. Next month won't be any different until the new training class comes out the end of next month. One good thing about it is that my paychecks will be sweet!

Today I got $160 from someone because I picked up her shift a few days ago. Sometimes people will pay extra just to get people to take their shits. I didn't care about the extra money because I would have done it anyway but that was just extra icing on the cake.

Well the online thing wasn't going too well the last month because I was working so much I haven't had the time and I have gone through two power cords for my computer! I guess there's a reason eBay was selling them so cheap. Well now I have the situation solved so I'm back online. I needed a little break from the computer anyway because I was getting really bad eye strain in my left eye it still twitches so I need to be careful I don't want to go blind.

I hate to admit it but unfortunately my debt has increased since the beginning of the year, yikes!

Doing The Credit Shuffle

A few weeks ago I noticed my Chase credit card increased my APR from 6.24% to 11.99% (approx 5k) Oh the horror!

I immediately began looking for new 0% balance transfer offers. I found the Discover More offer for 0% for 12 months whoo hoo! Meanwhile I still had my Bank of America 0% 12 month offer which expires in March.

I was almost at the limit for my BOA offer which I have not charged anything additional on that card except for the original balance transfer last year so I was only able to transfer 1k to that card which went through today. I'm still waiting for Discover to transfer the rest.

At least now I can start slashing my debt even more now that I don't have to worry about paying extra interest.

I guess it's time for an update. I'm scared to look.

Tutoring For Dollars

I haven't actually had the time to do it but I signed up for www.Wyzant.com last year to make money by tutoring. To sign up you choose the subjects you want to tutor. You need to take a test (relatively easy) to be certified to tutor in that subject.

You put up a profile with what subject(s) you tutor and a student will search the tutors profiles and email you or Wyzant will send you an email they get from a general inquiry from a student in your area.

You choose your own hourly rate and receive a percentage of this rate. You have to arrange to meet your student for example in the library or a place you mutually decide.

I have received several requests for tutoring at least one a month but unfortunately I have not had the time to be able to sync with a student's schedule because my work schedule varies so much.

If you don't want to leave your home to tutor you could try www.tutor.com and tutor online. You can choose your own hours and it's 24/7.

You get paid an hourly rate around $8 an hour. You also have to take a test to qualify, which I found was harder than Wyzant's. I actually failed the test for tutor.com but I will take it again.

I'm a kgb Agent Now

It's been a while since I've updated the blog. As I've written before I no longer work for ChaCha (still waiting on my last payment) and I needed something to replace that income stream so I decided to sign up for kgb.

It's also a text answering company, you may have seen their tv commercials. They pay roughly the same as ChaCha, .10 cents per text, although ChaCha can be higher depending on the category or how hard the question is to answer. I took the test about two weeks ago, passed, took the simulator, passed that now I'm just waiting to get myself scheduled to work.

It seems a lot more involved than ChaCha and for the same pay (which isn't much). ChaCha was a lot more flexible. With ChaCha you can jump on whenever you want, with kgb you have to schedule your shifts which is less convenient. With kgb you have to work a minimum of eight hours a month or your account will be deactivated.

Just seems like a lot more hoops you have to jump through with kgb. Unfortunately ChaCha hasn't been hiring for a long time now and I don't know when/if I can reapply for them. I will try kgb and see how it goes but from what I can tell now ChaCha seems better.

Well another year has come and gone and I'm a year older. Big sigh. I really hate birthdays now because I don't want to get older. I don't even tell people about my birthday. Well I try not to think about it. Age is nothing but a number right?

One good thing about birthdays is free stuff and I'm going to take advantage of some today. I got a coupon for free noodles at Noodles & Company so that will probably be my dinner. I follow MSN's Money message board a lot and came across this article about how to attack your debt. I guess you could say I'm doing the "debt snowball" method...

Using the debt snowball approach, you order your debts by size and pay off the smallest first, on the theory that quick wins will keep you motivated. You throw as much money as possible at your chosen debt while paying the minimums on the rest. When the targeted debt is gone, you apply the same payment plus the minimum to the next debt, and so on. The amount you apply to your targeted debt grows as you pay off each bill, and you pack together those little victories to make a big dent in what you owe. This method is touted by personal-finance guru Dave Ramsey and his many enthusiastic followers.

I'm paying off the smallest amount first which has the highest interest rate. The article has links to different sites that compare credit card rates and balance transfer options. I'm definitely going to check them out when my 0% balance transfer is up next year.

I was surprised when I opened my mail today and got a whopping $5 bill! Cold hard cash in my hand. It was from Consumer Opinion Institute. A few weeks ago I had signed up through Fusion Cash. They sent a survey through the mail. Hopefully I will get more surveys from them.

On a sadder note. I'm losing one of my biggest income streams, ChaCha. I got an email saying my account was being deactivated in the next few days. I simply have not had time (or the motivation) to do it lately so my quality was low, plus it took a lot more time to make payout so that's why I wasn't as motivated to do it.

I'm owed a little over $30 so I should be getting that soon. I'm going to apply for KGB (just like ChaCha) and see how that goes.

Today I have been on my job for one year. It's hard to believe I'm glad I made it. Not that I wanted to quit because it's my dream job but because of the economy and the industry I'm in things are kind of bad but we're hanging on. I just hope my company will last another year I'm just holding on as long as I can.

Anyway so I also got a raise ( I got one six months ago as well) and this will be a little more than the one six months ago a whole whopping $1.69 to be exact :). I also lowered some of of my savings and 401k percentages so that I'd have more money in my check so I can pay down my debt a little more. I've really been slipping lately on paying extra money lately so I need to get on the ball. Oh yeah and I worked Labor Day so I get time and a half so I can use that extra money as well.

It's the end of August and nothing exciting to report. It's been a boring month as far as paying down debt. I cashed out for a couple of sites but I won't get the money for a couple of weeks so I haven't had anything extra to pay down.

I charged some things, just came back from a trip so my debt has gone up slightly. There's just so many things I want to buy now and a lot of them I can only really get online so I have no choice but to use my card (sigh).

I'm a little bummed because the weather is changing. I hate that summer is ending. Summer is my favorite season because I love hot weather. I just hate cold weather.

Well I guess I will do an update.....drum roll please......

Get Paid To Search

I finally got enough points to redeem my $25 Visa Gift Card from Scour. You need 6500 points for a $25 gift card, more for a $50 or $100 gift card. It took me 376 days to do it lol! I forgot to do Scour for all my searches so that's why it took so long.

Oh well it's easy money and at least I get a little something for searching whereas as I never got jack from Google or Yahoo. It takes 2-4 weeks for the whole process for me to get my gift card so I can't count my chickens yet. I mainly use it when I do ChaCha so who knows how long it would have taken me to get my gift card if it wasn't for that.

Scour is like any other search engine only they pay you to search! You get one point for a search, vote, or comment on the search result. Why not get paid for something you're already doing for free?

Update

As of September 1st they are changing the rewards system. Now instead of getting points for a gift card for each search you do you will get an entry into a daily drawing for $25. I do not like this new system and a lot of other people are not happy with it either. I don't know if I will continue doing Scour anymore after I get my $25 gift card.

I got a $3 tip at work today which I used to by myself lunch. Now I don't normally get tips for what I do. I'm not a waitress or work in an industry that is customary to tip so when I get one I am surprised and very happy even if it's a dollar. I may get a $1 or $2, or $3 maybe once a month. About three weeks ago I got my biggest tip $15! That really made my day (doesn't take much to make me happy :)).

Today when I got the tip I was thinking hmmm maybe I should save up all my tips for the next couple months and see how much it adds up (not much I know but every bit helps). Then I was thinking I find pennies on the street a lot, only pennies no dimes, nickels quarters, just pennies. Maybe I will start saving those too. Sounds a little desperate right?

I just got back from a trip overseas and spent way too much money (and hate to admit that I charged a lot of it on my credit card ouch!) so I guess I'm sounding really desperate now for any extra money. But I had a good time and travel is my passion so I tell myself that any trip is money well spent lol!

I'm feeling a little behind the financial 8 ball today. I try to save while paying down my debt but at the same time I'm feeling like I'm nowhere where I should be financially. My goal is to be rich! haha isn't that everyone's goal.

I feel like just taking all my savings and throwing it on my debt. It still wouldn't pay everything off but I'd be a little closer, but then I'd have no savings and I'd feel even worse. Whoo hoo! I need to celebrate for a minute. As of yesterday I paid off one of my credit cards! It took a year and four months to do it. This card had the highest interest rate but the lowest balance I could have paid it off sooner (the balance never exceeded $500). I can't celebrate for long I still have a long way to go before I reach my goal but it feels good to see some progress.

Pennies From Heaven

I got an unexpected windfall the in the mail, a check for $412.53 from a settlement my late father was getting. My father has been gone going on 11 years now and just before he died he started getting checks from a class action lawsuit regarding asbestos on his job. After he died these settlements went to my brother, two sisters and me. They weren't huge amounts after the lawyer took his cut and splitting it four ways each of us got a couple hundred dollars at a time.

They used to come maybe every six months. Then we'd see them in drips an drabs maybe one once a year or every other year. I think the last check I got was almost two years ago. I thought they had stopped so I was very surprised to see the check.

I know the right thing is to use all of it to put on my debt and pretend like I never even got it but part of me wants to put some in my savings. But I will use part of it to finally pay off one of my cards.

Those checks are a pleasant surprise and who doesn't need a little extra money now and then? I look at it as my father still looking out for me after all these years because I know he would have shared some of it with me if he were still alive.

Busy Body

Today is the first chance I've had to update my blog. I've been quite busy the past few weeks moving. My job transferred me the beginning of March. Needless to say I've been spending a lot of money getting settled and racking up more on the credit card but that's ok it really can't be avoided.

I was out of town the past four days at my favorite place in the world and hoping to move back there eventually. Last week my power cord for my computer got fried so I waited patiently for the past week for a new one and I was finally able to get it today so now I have my beloved computer back so I can get down to business again.

Me and a coworker just found an apartment and we have nothing, no furniture no nothing. I'm not going crazy with trying to fill the place with stuff. I just need the basics, really I'm just here for work so it's not my permanent home just a place to stay while I'm working here. Just yesterday a friend and fellow coworker gave me an air mattress. I was so grateful for it saved my back (sleeping on the floor) and some money from not having to buy one. She also gave us a huge box of blankets, sheets and other useful things.

With the help of Freecycle.org I hope to have the place furnished in no time. Last week I scored hopefully the first of many Freecycle offerings. I got a nice and much needed floor lamp and best of all it was totally FREE!

I had a pretty good day getting free stuff. First I got my taxes done for free. I'm getting a $748 refund. Some of that I'm using to pay down debt and some I'm saving. Then I went to Walmart to get my free bottle of Suave (I got the tropical coconut conditoner). The coupon was a $3 value. I paid $1.68 + tax for it and I got $1.21 back! How cool is that. They actually paid me $1.21 for a free bottle!

The day before I got some McDonalds coupons in the mail. Just my luck there was a McD's in Walmart so I used one of the coupons for a $1 fillet of fish and I used the dollar I got from the free Suave to buy that. Well I was in more luck because wouldn't you know there was a McD's right across the parking lot from Walmart ( it was one coupon per customer) so I went to the McD's across the street to use another coupon for a free drink.

So I got taxes done for free, a free bottle of conditioner and a free lunch. I just love getting freebies!

Free Pancakes February 24th!

Still Pushing On

It's been a while since I last updated my blog. I've been super busy with my job lately and in the process of moving to another state so I haven't had a lot of time to do an update. I'm still doing my sites when I get the chance and I am at or near payout with some of them. Last night I just cashed out of Fusion Cash for $47.20. It took me literally months to reach because I didn't do the site for a while until recently. Some of my earnings expired from several months ago because it was so long since I did it so I was determined to work on getting payout.

I haven't been doing ChaCha a lot lately since it slowed down but I think I will slowly get back into it by doing an hour a day. A couple of days ago they changed the pay system again so I don't know if it will be good or bad until I get on more and do it. My current earnings are $$61.20 and I need $100 to reach pay out. That has taken months to reach as well.

I have come up with a new strategy for my getting out of debt plan, which I should have been doing all along. In addition to my automatic monthly payments, as soon as I get any money from my sites I'm just going to throw it right away on my cards. I think this will help me get in the habit of just throwing everything extra on it that I can.

I recently made the decision to only pay in cash for anything I buy from now on, well I will try to anyway. I might slip every now and then. My biggest problem will be only buying what I can afford with the money I have in my pocket. I'm so used to just charging something if I wanted it even if I didn't have the money in my pocket and worrying about paying later.

I will still need to use my card because I have a lot of expenses from my job that I can deduct so I can keep track of it better instead of saving all the receipts. One of my coworkers gave me that idea. She said she just uses one card to charge her work expenses on so it's easier to keep track of.

I'm only a couple hundred dollars (less than three hundred) away from paying off one of my cards. That one has the highest interest rate. I should call them and see if they will lower my rate and use that card to track my work expenses. I just need to make sure I pay it off at the end of each month. I'm still pushing on slowly but surely.

I feel a little better knowing I won't be paying so much interest. I still have over $600 on the old card because I couldn't transfer all of it (credit limit). My goal now is to pay it all off by the end of the year. I need to be serious because I said it last year but I am determined to get rid of all the debt but December 31st 2009.

Well here we go again. I just came back from one of my favorite places on earth to see one of my favorite people. I just got back a few hours ago because I had to come back to go to work. I won't go into the ugly details but because of a series of events (not my fault) that prevented me from getting on my scheduled flight I had to spend over $1000 to get back. Really couldn't be helped I had to come back today and I didn't want to get in trouble because I'm still on probation on my new job.

I really don't feel that bad about spending that amount of money because I had a nice time albeit short (only two days) but I consider it money well spent so I'm not crying too much. I said hey it's only money there's more where that came from. Plus I get paid this week so that makes me feel a little better.

Starting over this really hurts

I've been in denial. I've been lying to myself. I need to face the facts. I'm in more debt now than I started with. I had a major set back on my journey to being debt free. Some of it really couldn't be helped I had no choice. I had to live off my credit card for a little while until my paychecks started coming.

I have to update my debt ticker now. My old amount was $7577.70. I also had another credit card with a small balance that I didn't add to the amount before but I will add now. On that card I have $360.70 so now the new balance is $8,701.81.

That's $11241.11 more owed!

So now this is my new starting point. I haven't charged anything to the card since November 7th except for a monthly $29.95 subscription fee which will remain the same monthly. I feel a little better now. I'm further behind but this won't get me down. I know what I need to do I just need to get cracking and work harder.

I've been busy, busy, busy the past two months. I started a real paying job last month. I moved to the most expensive city in the US. I had no choice if I wanted the job, which I really did. The good thing is that I don't have to be here forever just six months or a little longer and I hope it's only six months. So this has really put a near shut down on my online money making activities not to mention I've been spending money like crazy getting settled and YIKES I've been somewhat living on my credit card until my my paychecks came in.

Not good at all. Needless to say my balance has increased every so slightly, hell who am I kidding it increased significantly by almost $800 ( I guess I need to change my ticker amount). More than ever I need to not only find ways to save more money I need to get back into my online money making ventures so I can pay down this debt hanging over my head ASAP.

I waited to post this until I got my first payment. I've known about ChaCha for a while but I only signed up for it last month. Had I known before how much money I could have earned I would have signed up for it sooner. Well better late than never.

It's an ongoing thread in an anti scammer forum about how a scammer gets scammed when he tried to purchase "Anus" computers. This is hilarious I spent the whole day laughing my ass off. "Wilson Tarbuckles" is playing along with the scammer and is getting death threats through email because he sent junk instead of computers to the scammers. They even set up a fake Anus Laptop website.

Here is a sample of the hilarity of the thread. The scammer has called the governor of "Wilson's" state and the "clique mob" to go DEAD him.
